Want to check out Cub Scouts?
If you are interested in Cub Scouting I would like to invite
you to join us:
Who Is Pack 26?
We are a Cub Scout Pack consisting of Homeschool Families,
our motto is:
Pack 26 of the Mid-America Council, will become the premier
location where homeschool families can come and enjoy training
in scouting activities in a Christian environment that promotes
and fosters open communication in a loving and Christian
way.
The Purpose of Scouting
Since 1930, the Boy Scouts of America has helped younger
boys through Cub Scouting. It is a year-round family program
designed for boys who are in the first grade through fifth
grade (or 7, 8, 9, and 10 years of age). Parents, leaders,
and organizations work together to achieve the purposes
of Cub Scouting. Currently, Cub Scouting is the largest
of the BSA'a three membership divisions. (The others are
Boy Scouting and Venturing.)
The Ten purposes of Cub Scouting are:
Character development Spiritual growth
Good citizenship Sportsmanship and Fitness
Family understanding Respectful Relationships
Personal Achievement Friendly Service
Fun and Adventure Preparation for Boy Scouts
Why Should We Join Cub Scouts?"
As one Scout leader said, "Scouting teaches your son
skills for a lifetime, not just a season."
There are many good organizations that teach teamwork,
skills, etc. However, Scouting's strength is a well rounded
program affecting every area of a boy's life, delivered
in a non-competitive environment and at his own pace.
You can expect to see your son develop skills and attitudes
that lead to a well adjusted adult life. As a parent you
will enjoy the satisfaction of joining your son in the fun
of constructive activities. As the founder of Scouting,
Lord Baden-Powell said, "Scouting is fun with a purpose."
Please come and Join Us!

Homeschool D.A.R.E. for students age 11, 12 or
13
Hello, Homeschoolers!
Officer McClannan is looking forward to teaching another
Drug Abuse Resistance Education class for homeschoolers
that will begin in September, 2008.
Who may attend D.A.R.E. (what ages)?
You do not need to live in Papillion to attend. Any student
who will be age 11, 12 or 13 anytime during the 2008-2009
school year may attend the class.
What is D.A.R.E.?
The Drug Abuse Resistance Education program helps students
resist pressure to drink, smoke or experiment with drugs
by teaching them how to say no. The students will discover
for themselves that they don't want to use those substances
by learning how various drugs affect their bodies and minds.
The students will learn ways to manage stress without turning
to drugs, and they will learn the D.A.R.E. decision making
model. For more information, visit www.dare.com
About the Instructor:
Officer McClannan, a former youth minister, does an excellent
job teaching the class. His teaching will reinforce the
positive values that you have been teaching your student
at home. If you have not discussed the various types of
drug abuse with your student, this will be an excellent
lead-in for you. Officer McClannan might assign optional
homework that opens dialogue between parents and students.
During class Officer McClannan has the students role play
the skills they are learning to help them practice what
they've been taught.
When, Where, How Much?
The class is offered free of charge. It runs for 12 weeks
during the school year, one hour per week. The classes will
be taught at the Papillion Police Department. D.A.R.E. rules
require one adult representative or teacher to be present
each week with the class while D.A.R.E. is being taught.
The parents from our previous groups really enjoyed the
opportunity to take turns sitting in on one of the classes!
Possible class times, beginning the week of September 15,
2008:
Mondays - 10:00 am or 1:00 pm -or-
Tuesdays - 10:00 am or 1:00 pm
What is expected of the participants?
The students are expected to have a desire to be in class
and demonstrate appropriate behavior in class. They should
show proper respect for Officer McClannan, as well as their
classmates. If there are any problems with behavior in class,
Officer McClannan will address the problems using the D.A.R.E.
decision making model and the student might be asked to
leave the classroom for the remainder of the class hour.
If a student persists in having problems in class, he or
she may be asked not to return for the remainder of the
12 week session.
Registration information:
If you are interested in having your student attend a D.A.R.E.
class, please send the following information to me before
September 8th:
Provide the following information:
1. Parent's name and e-mail address.
2. Student's name, date of birth, address, phone number
and e-mail address.
3. Any of the "possible class times" that will
NOT work for you. I'll schedule a time that works best for
the majority.
If you have any questions, please let me know.
