MOPS Childcare Workers Needed
Brookside Church needs some childcare workers
for the MOPS program (meets thursdays) and/or Bible study
(meets tuesdays). You can take your kids ( There are homeschool
rooms.) with you for free and other details are listed below.
The general time requirements are 8:45-11:45 and it pays
$20 a day. MOPS runs mid Sept to first of Dec and mid Jan
to first of May. Bible Study is shorter--goes to Nov and
then til mid April. MOPS workers can choose to help both
groups (every Thurs) or just one group (either 1st/3rd weeks
or 2nd/4th). We have opening for monitoring baby rooms (snack,
change diapers, play and rock) or teaching a Christian curriculum
in a preschool room.

is allowed this year.
Effective February 14, 2008, BOOK IT! enrollment for homeschools
with students in grades K-6 will be accepted on an individual
basis only.
Who is eligible for the BOOK IT! Program for homeschools?
Any student in grades K-6 (5 years old by September of current
school year) that is homeschooled and does not attend any
other educational facility.
What are the program dates for 2008-09?
October 1, 2008 through March 31, 2009.
When will the 2008-09 materials be shipped to enrolled
homeschools?
Materials will arrive by early to mid-September.

Vala's This Year for Homeschoolers
Vala’s has introduced Homeschooler Days this year!
You can pick one or both days to go to Vala’s and
receive the field trip discount! Normal rates are $9 or
$11, so this is a great deal! You can go as an individual
family or with other homeschool friends and there is no
group minimum on the homeschooler days. The Vala’s
have invited homeschool families to stay all day and evening
on these dates (normal school field trips are asked to leave
by 3:30pm).
With this new change, you can truly customize your visit
to Vala’s to fit your own interests! Five different
field trip options will be available. The Pumpkin Harvest
Fun Field trip is $6.50 for kids and adults. Kids 2 and
under are free. No reservations are required if you choose
the Pumpkin Harvest Fun option. If you want to do the Apple
Education, Gem Mining, or Pollination Lessons, please call
closer to the dates and make a reservation as space in those
classrooms are limited. Costs for each field trip option
is listed below. Each family will pay Vala’s at the
admission barn when they arrive on the day that you participate.
Homeschooler Days:
When: Tuesday, September. 30th and Tuesday, October
7th
Parents and their homeschooled children may take advantage
of the school group student rates and stay all day and evening.
No reservation is necessary for the Pumpkin Harvest Fun.
Apple Education, Gem Mining, and Pollination lessons need
to be scheduled prior to your visit. (Call 402-332-4200
to set this up) Simply identify yourself as a Homeshool
Family.
All adults are $6.50 and babies under age 2 are free. Includes
admission, train ride, pumpkin and activities.

We are committed to train young ladies in Character and
Volleyball
Coaches for the 2008 season will be: Kelly Hassler, Carolyn
Friesen, Mary Cutler and more if needed - depending on numbers.
Practices: Monday/Wednesday from 1-3:30 pm
Season: August 11th through the 1st week in November -
Short and Sweet!
Practices begin: Aug. 11th for JV and Varsity (8th - 12th)
Aug. 20th for PAL League(6th-7th graders)
Fees: $175 for PAL League
$200 for JV and Varsity.
ALL FEES CAN BE FUND RAISED.
Half of your fees are due at the parent meeting.

Our homeschool Toastmasters Club will begin its 9th year!
“The mission of a Toastmasters club is to provide
a mutually supportive and positive learning environment
in which every member has the opportunity to develop communication
and leadership skills, which in turn foster self-confidence
and personal growth.”

When: every other Wednesday beginning Sept. 10

Must be registered to participate. Enrollment limited to
30 students. Nominal fee involved.

E-Tree Policy
The HEN E-tree
is a weekly communication sent to area homeschoolers
informing them of timely events and news in the homeschooling
community. The E-tree is primarily reserved for:
One-time events which did not make it into the HEN
newsletter prior to the deadline (the 10th of the
month)
Legislative items which affect homeschoolers
Prayer requests
Other important news and events that are specifically
of interest to homeschoolers
Advertising a business is not permitted
on the E-tree, although information regarding one-time
events which pertain to homeschooling will be submitted.
Information does not meet the above criteria for the
E-tree, or which is not time-sensitive, will not be
published on the HEN E-tree and can be submitted to
the HEN newsletter (newsletter@omahahen.org).
E-tree submissions should contain a brief summary
of the event or news and should also include contact
information should readers desire further information. |
