HEN Boy’s PE Program
If you are interested in registering you
son(s) for next year’s HEN Boy’s PE Program,
please contact the new coordinator, Tami Bourland, at thebourlands@cox.net
or 896-8663.
Classes meet on Tuesday & Thursday beginning
the first week after Labor Day and ending the last week
of April. Class size is limited and usually fills up quickly.
Fee for the entire year is $65 per son.
Volunteer Opportunity this summer
The Homeschool families of Iowa and Nebraska will be volunteering
again at the festival.
The Homeschool night is June 26. The Festival is held at
the campus of UNO. Your commitment would begin about 530
and you would be free to stay to see the show, King Lear,
or to leave after intermission.
Families welcome, but this particular show is heavy-duty
stuff and may not be suitable for younger children. Still
- it is considered one of Shakespeare's greatest works.

STARFISH MINISTRY - WAYS TO HELP!
Our friends, Dave and Robin Laney, a fellow Home School
family with three children, have a ministry, “Starfish
Ministry” which feeds the hungry downtown every Sunday.
The Bible tells us to “clothe the naked, feed the
hungry, take care of the poor,” and they could use
our help.
Every Sunday the Laneys and a handful of faithful volunteers
are downtown at noon sharp feeding 150-250 people in front
of the Library at the Gene Leahy Mall.
They could use some help.
Instead of one person frying up 30 lbs. of hamburger, what
if 3 people were to volunteer and fry 10 lbs. each?
They need cooks, servers, conversationalists, donations,
money, trash picker-uppers, etc.
This ministry fits in with “Acts of Service”
which are required to help our children become not so self-centered/absorbed.
Why not come down once a month and volunteer with the whole
family?
There are many needs and many hands make light work, esp.
when we are commanded to take care of the needy.

Home School Library
The Home School Library will be open this Thursday, May
8th, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 29th and Dewey - west side
of I480.
The Home School Library will be open all summer. We've
always been open all twelve months of the year.
This spring we've added a brand new telescope, updated
the magnet kit and added hundreds of easy readers suitable
for kindergarten through 4th grade.
You can feel confident that all the books in our library
are carefully screened for wholesome content and good values.
Soon, all of our video tapes will be converted to DVD's
and we're adding over twenty new ones.
Please consider using this wonderful resource for your
summer reading program!!

Hello Homeschool Parents!
Here is the list of classes that extend through July.
Oceans and Water. Over 70% of the earth’s surface
is covered with water. Come explore the amazing world’s
that live in the ocean.
PreK-1st Tues., June 10. 9:45 – 10:45.
2nd – 4th Tues., June 10. 11:00 – 12:30.
5th – 7th Tues., June10. 1:30 – 3:00.
PreK-1st Fri., June 27. 9:45 – 10:45.
2nd – 4th Fri., June 27. 11:00 – 12:30.
Wings. Fly on over and learn all about wings and the amazing
animals that have them.
PreK-1st Fri., July 11. 9:45 – 10:45.
2nd – 4th Fri., July 11. 11:00 – 12:30.
5th – 7th Fri., July 11. 1:30 – 3:00.
PreK-1st Tues., July 29. 9:45 – 10:45.
2nd – 4th Tues., July 29. 11:00 – 12:30.
These classes are $6.00 per person (which does not include
zoo admission). These will be listed in ZooPrints.

The PreK – 1st grade require a parent to attend
with the child(s). The 2nd – 4th grade and 5th –
7th grade classes do not need a parent to attend with them.
If the parent would like to attend then they will have to
pay the $6 also.

SEWMATES is offering two Summer Camps for ages
7-12
June 17-20 Tues through Friday 9:00am to 11:30 am
July 22-25 Tues through Friday 9:00am to 11:30 am
Registration to reserve your spot is $20 Nonrefundable but
is applied to the cost for the week. $60 due at beginning
of the class
Projects are: big foot pillow, back pack, Christmas gifts
and ornaments, scrunchies and head bands, I-pod and CD bags,
tie blanket, bandana shirt.
All supplies, fabric, sewing machines and notions are provided.
You may bring your own sewing machine if it is portable.

E-Tree Policy
The HEN E-tree
is a weekly communication sent to area homeschoolers
informing them of timely events and news in the homeschooling
community. The E-tree is primarily reserved for:
One-time events which did not make it into the HEN
newsletter prior to the deadline (the 10th of the
month)
Legislative items which affect homeschoolers
Prayer requests
Other important news and events that are specifically
of interest to homeschoolers
Advertising a business is not permitted
on the E-tree, although information regarding one-time
events which pertain to homeschooling will be submitted.
Information does not meet the above criteria for the
E-tree, or which is not time-sensitive, will not be
published on the HEN E-tree and can be submitted to
the HEN newsletter (newsletter@omahahen.org).
E-tree submissions should contain a brief summary
of the event or news and should also include contact
information should readers desire further information. |
